Support has poured in for a struggling teenager who says he was left “feeling like a slave” after working for free at a popular Hull discount store. Lewis King, who only came out of care six months ago, has revealed how his money struggles have been compounded by a lack of work. The 18-year-old recently did unpaid shifts at Stack It High Sell It Cheap in Hessle Road, west Hull, in the hope of securing a permanent, paid role. However, this never materialised and there is now a dispute between Mr King and the shop manager Hafiza Riaz, who claims Mr King walked out halfway through his second shift without telling any members of staff. Mr King, who likened the shifts to “slave labour”, said: “I’m on Universal Credit and have £135 to live on a month after I’ve paid everything, and I must have spent £20 of that on transport to get to the shop. “£20 is a big chunk of money for me and losing that has left me struggling. It’s … [Read more...] about Hull moved by jobless teen who was left to ‘feel like a slave’
20 years a slave
A teenager struggling to survive on benefits says he feels like a “slave” after not being paid for trial shifts at a well-known Hull discount store. Lewis King worked for free at Stack It High Sell It Cheap in Hessle Road, west Hull, and claims he did 15 hours’ worth of unpaid shifts in preparation for what he hoped would be a permanent role. The shop’s manager Hafiza Riaz claims Mr King only did one full shift before “walking out” midway through his second shift – something the 18-year-old disputes. However, she confirmed Mr King was not paid for any of the work he did at the store at the end of May and he now wants the shop to reimburse him for his travel costs and for the hours he spent working in the store. Mr King said: “I worked for free and it felt like slave labour. I’m on Universal Credit and have £135 to live on a month after I’ve paid everything and I must have spent £20 of that on transport to get to the … [Read more...] about Jobless teen ‘feels like a slave’ after working at Hull store

Former midfielder Ryan, now national manager of his native Wales, apologised to Rhodri weeks later - saying only that he "wasn't thinking". But Rhodri told Good Morning Britain today he hasn't spoken to his big brother in seven years - and revealed even his mum hasn't contacted him following the rift. He said: "It was all a bit of a shock but like I said, it's a long time ago now. Everyone has moved on, everyone seems to be happy. A GERMAN woman, 27, has been accused of leaving a chained-up Yazidi slave girl, five, to die of thirst under the blazing Iraqi sun. Alleged ISIS morality cop Jennifer Wenisch faces charges of murder, a war crime and membership of the terrorist organisation - and could face life in prison if convicted in Munich state court, say reports. Prosecutors allege that Wenisch was a member of ISIS’s “morality police”, and that she and her husband bought the Yazadi girl as a slave in 2015. Her husband reportedly chained the girl outdoors as punishment for wetting her mattress and Wenisch allegedly did nothing to prevent her from dying. The case against her is believed to be the first anywhere in the world for international crimes committed by ISIS terrorists against Yazidis. Clooney is working alongside former ISIS sex-slave Nadia Murad on a Nobel Peace Prize winning campaign to have ISIS crimes against Yazidi people recognised as genocide, although she is not expected to appear … [Read more...] about German woman, 27, who worked as ISIS morality cop ‘allowed chained-up Yazidi slave girl, 5, to die of thirst under blazing Iraqi sun’
