Gracie Hyland, from Northampton, was two when a friend saw the image and noticed a glow in her left eye. It was discovered Gracie had eye cancer, or retinoblastoma, and had to have the eye removed in 2011. Parents Jodine and Russell Hyland want to raise awareness of the condition and the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT). Mrs Hyland said the loss of Gracie's eye was "heartbreaking". "It's a special bond between you and your daughter - looking into their eyes," she said. "So for me it was a massive loss." The family were supported by CHECT, one of the only charities that helps children with eye cancer and their families. Ava White death: Boy, 14, accused of murdering 12-year-old girl tells court he just wanted to ‘frighten her away’
The teenager who is accused of murdering 12-year-old Ava White in Liverpool has told a jury he was "scared" she would "jump" him. The 14-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been giving evidence via videolink at Liverpool Crown Court and said: "I promise, I didn't mean to hit her". He claims that he stabbed Ava in self-defence after an altercation in the city centre on 25 November 2021. He had been out with three friends when he filmed a Snapchat video of Ava and her friends "messing on the floor", he said. The jury heard that Ava approached him to say "delete the video" and then went to get more friends before returning, adding that he heard one of the group tell his friend "delete the f****** video now or I'm going to stab you". A 28-year-old mother has been charged with child endangerment after a gun in her son's backpack accidentally went off at school and injured a seven-year-old. Tatanina Kelly appeared in court on three misdemeanour child endangerment counts and was released from Cook County Jail on $1,000 (£800) bail. Prosecutors alleged Kelly's eight-year-old son found the gun underneath her bed and took it to Walt Disney Magnet School in Chicago. The mother has a valid firearm owners identification card. Police said the backpack was in the boy's classroom when the gun discharged just before 10am on Tuesday. Urgent appeal launched to find 14-year-old boy missing for eight days
An urgent appeal has been launched to find a 14-year-old boy who has last seen eight days ago as police become extremely concerned. Nasim Sweeting, from Preston, was last spotted at 2.40pm on 3 May in Ashton-on-Ribble. The teenager is described as being 6ft 3ins tall with an afro hairstyle. He was last seen wearing a black Nike Airforce tracksuit, a beige t-shirt with a tiger print on the front, grey Nike Air 90s trainers, a grey North face beanie hat and carrying a white JD Sports string bag. He is believed to have links to Avon and Somerset. Lancashire Constabulary said: “We are extremely concerned about him and would urge anybody who has seen him, or knows where he may be, to get in touch. A three-year-old is touring care homes dressed as a ‘mini Queen’ ahead of the Jubilee
An adorable three-year-old is delighting OAPs across the north of England, by dressing up as Her Majesty ahead of the Platinum Jubilee . Isla Bates has been visiting care homes dressed as Queen Elizabeth II – in the run-up to the celebration. The pint-sized ‘royal’ wears a pink coat and hat, a pearl necklace and matching shoes on her visits. If that wasn’t enough, she even has a grey wig to ensure the look is as authentic as possible. Plus, a little toy Corgi to accompany her. Some of her engagements involve planting trees at each of the care homes – as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative – and showing off her regal wave to residents. Speaking about her ‘royal tour,’ Isla said: ‘I have loved being a mini Queen and helping to plant all of the trees. I like waving and making the residents smile.’ And it’s safe to say her visits have gone down a treat with everyone. Man uses old pallets to build impressive bowling alley in backyard
One English 20-year-old is set for a summer of fun after building his own bowling alley in his family's backyard, using old pallets. Having your own bowling alley might sound like a scene from Richie Rich , but Luke Philpott managed to make the project on a budget, using primarily recycled materials. Philpott described the bowling alley as "working brilliantly" and "perfectly," fit with a ball recall system and a skittle reset system. Since uploading the process to TikTok, Philpott gained over 17 million views and 900,000 likes on his DIY project, which he admitted to misjudging just how long it would take him. Media outlets were told of the decree on Wednesday, a religious police spokesman told BBC Pashto. The ruling comes two weeks after all women were ordered to wear a face veil in public , or face punishment. Restrictions on women are being tightened - they are banned from travelling without male relatives and secondary schools are shut for girls. The new decree is being widely criticised on Twitter, with many calling it another step by the Taliban to promote extremism. "The world deploys masks to protect people from Covid.
