POPE Francis is being protected by armed guards and a huge security entourage - including gun-mounted trucks - in Iraq as he visits sites and prays for peace in the war-torn nation. The 84-year-old arrived in country today for a four-day trip - defying fears over security risks and the country's spiralling Covid infection rate. The historic tour is the first time a pontiff has visited Iraq, with the Pope saying he was coming as a "pilgrim of peace". ‘Exhausted’ NHS heroes vent fury at ‘absolutely disgusting’ £3.50-a-week pay rise
Exhausted and demoralised NHS workers are being forced to take on side jobs as delivery drivers or turn to food banks as they struggle to get by on their current pay. Frontline workers have slammed the Government's proposed pitiful 1% pay rise as "absolutely disgusting" and "insulting", saying they would take home an extra £3.50 or less per week. For some that barely covers the cost of getting to and from work in a single day. NHS workers have told the Mirror they are prepared to go on strike as this offer is the latest slap in the face after a decade of austerity that saw them fall behind and a coronavirus pandemic in which they continue to risk their lives. KATE Lawler has revealed doctors feared her baby daughter Noa was at risk of meningitis and septicaemia after being treated for an infection. Kate's three week old daughter developed the infection in her finger but her temperature soared again yesterday, leading the couple to rush back to the hospital. It was the third time in three weeks that Noa found herself in A&E, with Kate sharing an update on her progress last night. The Virgin Radio host said on Instagram: "While the doctor informed us that Noa was showing signs of being quite sick and her initial tests were cause of concern, she fought back with antibiotics and we were sent home yesterday knowing that the chances of meningitis or septicaemia were now very low. "We’re still waiting the final blood culture results from the lab but she’s been feeding well, she looks healthier and apart from hardly any sleep last night because of tummy cramps (a side effect of the antibiotics) she’s doing so much better and today … [Read more...] about Kate Lawler reveals doctors feared baby daughter was at risk of meningitis and septicaemia in hospital dash
