YouTube sensation Zoella has been fiercely criticised for an advent calendar which costs a whopping £50 and only has 12 doors. Boots were forced to cut the price of the “Zoella 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar" after substantial numbers of customers vented their frustrations it was extortionate. The retailer will now be selling the Christmas calendar at the reduced price of £25 from 16 November. The calendar contains a cookie cutter, a small pack of confetti, a packet of seven stickers, a star-shaped cookie cutter, a small bag, a 130g "Festive Cookie" candle, a 30ml "Christmas Clementine" room spray, a pen, a fluffy key ring, a gingerbread man-shaped cookie cutter, a mini notepad and a 130g "Cosy Christmas" candle. The entire contents of the advent calendar, which is being sold at Boots and has received an overall rating of one and a half stars so far, can be purchased for about £20 separately. Firework displays on New Year’s Eve left a dog so frightened that it fled its home – and was eventually found months later on a remote island three miles away. The pooch, named Mel, had been left at her home near Itaipuacu Beach in Brazil on the evening of December 31, 2021, but as midnight approached and fireworks were set off the pup became spooked. Mel fled her home, jumped in the water and swam three miles away to the remote island of Ilhas Maricas (Maricas Islands), just off the coast of Marica, near Rio de Janeiro in south-eastern Brazil. Now months later the brave pup has been reunited with her owner Cassia Oliveira after fishermen heard her barking on the remote island. The 38-year-old said: “Mel got lost during the fireworks. Brits are set to be hit with heavy thunderstorms after one of the hottest days of the year so far yesterday. Despite Saturday’s roasting temperatures hitting a high of 23.6C, a yellow weather warning of storms has been issued for parts of southwestern England and Wales, which will last until 5am tomorrow.
