Check-in data from hundreds of millions of people who visited pubs, restaurants and hairdressers before lockdown was barely used by Test and Trace, according to a confidential report obtained by Sky News. The report admits that the failure of the £22bn service to use the data for alerts or contact tracing meant "thousands of people" were not warned they might be at risk of infection, "potentially leading to the spread of the virus." Live COVID updates from the UK and around the world To make matters worse, when coronavirus data from venues was used, public health officials encouraged pubs and restaurants to contact customers directly - a breach of data protection law which could leave businesses facing legal action. The report says that lack of guidance from Test and Trace for local public health teams on how to use the data left businesses "being asked to, or volunteering, to contact customers and visitors". Janet Jackson documentary: Two-part film to cover Michael Jackson and Super Bowl controversy
A Janet Jackson documentary is in the works, with the star reportedly giving unprecedented intimate access and "leaving no stone unturned". The programme, which has the working title Janet , will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the star's self-titled debut album, released in 1982 when she was just 16, and is set to air early in 2022. The announcement comes just weeks after Jackson's infamous Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction" in 2004 came back into the international spotlight when her co-performer Justin Timberlake - who exposed one of her breasts on stage - issued a public apology for the way he dealt with the incident in the aftermath. Jackson, 54, who bore the brunt of the criticism while Timberlake's solo career flourished, will give her side of the story in the programme. She will also talk about the death of brother Michael Jackson in 2009 and discuss her romantic relationships, as well as becoming a mother later in life, US network A&E said. … [Read more...] about Janet Jackson documentary: Two-part film to cover Michael Jackson and Super Bowl controversy
Art in exile: A prison cell as an exhibition venue
A glass box, 25 square meters (269 square feet) in size, contains a toilet, a bed, a table and chair and a sink — nothing more. This artistic installation is a replica of a prison cell at the high-security Silivri prison in Turkey and is titled Prison of Though t. Next door, the exhibition titled T he Museum of Small Things is taking place in a part of Berlin's Maxim Gorki Theater. In video installations, actors explain how each object is used, providing insight into the lives of the imprisoned, their solidarity, as well as their communication with one another — and their hopes. The exhibition was curated by Turkish journalist Can Dündar, along with Hakan Savas Mican. Dündar has been living in Berlin since 2016. Pakistan: Senate election deals a blow to Imran Khan
Pakistani Premier Imran Khan will seek a vote of confidence in the National Assembly (lower house of parliament) following a major setback in the upper house elections on Wednesday. The move is aimed at restoring confidence in Khan's leadership after his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party failed to win a majority in the 100-member Senate, despite having a numerical advantage in the lower house. Members of the National Assembly in the capital Islamabad and four provincial assemblies vote for the Senate members. Upper house lawmakers are elected for six years, however, all of them are not elected at the same time. On Wednesday, elections were held for 37 Senate seats. After the vote, opposition parties – mainly former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League (N) and former president Asif Ali Zardari's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) – now enjoy the support of 53 members, and the ruling alliance of 47 members. Ruling parties generally secure a majority in the Senate. … [Read more...] about Pakistan: Senate election deals a blow to Imran Khan
Bundesliga: Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund chasing different goals
Generally billed as title-race defining clashes between Germany's two preeminent sides, games between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have fallen short of expectations in recent years. The recent record between the two is as one-sided as the clubs' respective trophy hauls, Bayern Munich winning 11 of the last 17 league meetings between the two since Dortmund last won the Bundesliga in 2012. Games in Munich have been particularly one-sided with the home side winning the last six by score lines of 4-0, 5-0, 6-0, 4-1, 5-1 and 2-1 en route to racking up eight consecutive Bundesliga titles. The cynic might say that the "Der Klassiker" moniker is being shown up for baseless marketing slogan it is. On Saturday evening however, there's no danger of Bayern knocking Dortmund out of the title race; they're already out of it, 13 points adrift and chasing a very different aim: top four and Champions League qualification. Bayern Munich and the title race And yet it's still a … [Read more...] about Bundesliga: Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund chasing different goals
