WITH a machete at his throat and a gun at his head, Mike Farmer noticed the kid holding the firearm was shaking – they were scared, and that made the situation even more dangerous. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is auctioning his first ever tweet on a website that sells tweets as non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Bidding had reached $2.5 million (€2.1 million) on Saturday, indicating the potential in selling virtual objects that have been authenticated through blockchain technology. Who is bidding on the tweet? The post — "just setting up my twttr" — was sent from Dorsey's account in March 2006. While old offers on the post indicate that it was put for sale in December 2020, the auction picked up momentum after Dorsey posted a link to the online marketplace "Valuables @Cent" on Friday. COVID-19: UK daily deaths dip below 100 for the first time since last October
The UK has recorded a further 82 coronavirus deaths and 5,177 cases in the last 24 hours, government figures show. It's the first time the number of daily deaths has dropped below 100 since 9 October last year. Then, 79 deaths were recorded. The figures represent a drop from last Sunday (28 February), when 144 deaths and 6,035 coronavirus cases were reported. It brings the UK total since the start of the pandemic to 124,501 deaths and 4,218,520 cases. Meanwhile, a total of 23,335,514 COVID-19 jabs have been given in the UK so far, according to government data up to 6 March. The UK has recorded another drop in COVID infections, with 5,177 reported in the last 24 hours. The latest figure is down from the 6,035 coronavirus cases recorded last Sunday. The daily figures on deaths are due to be released later today after a processing error in data for England. Meanwhile, a total of 23,335,514 COVID-19 jabs have been given in the UK so far, according to government data up to 6 March. Thousands of parents will lose some or all child benefit under Budget stealth tax
THOUSANDS of parents will lose some of all of their child benefit payments under Rishi Sunak's stealth tax, according to research. Although the Chancellor stopped short of a tax rises in the Budget this week, a raft of threshold freezes equals a pay cut for millions of Brits once you take into account inflation . Mr Sunak decided against raising the salary at which parents stop receiving child benefit , hitting the pockets of around 250,000 middle-income parents by 2025. Child benefit is currently worth £21.05 a week for the first child and £13.95 for younger siblings. Anyone with children under the age of 16 can claim the payout. But families stop being entitled to the full payout when one parent earns an annual salary of £50,000 or more.
