Britain is on the brink of crashing out of the European Union in an disorganised heap after months of political bungling. On Thursday, 21 March, after eight hours of talks, EU leaders offered to delay Brexit until 22 May if Parliament approves Theresa May's deal at the third attempt. If they do not the EU will grant an extension until 12 April and said Britain could leave without a deal. But what will Brexit mean for the EU's budget? The bloc's current annual budget is around 165 billion euros (£143 billion) and around nine percent of that is made up of the British contribution. EU27 responds to UK requests in a positive spirit and: — Donald Tusk (@eucopresident) 21 March 2019 The EU is currently in the process of putting together its budget for 2021-2027 and it has already factored into the equation Britain leaving. Another agonising defeat for Theresa May last night takes the UK one step closer to leaving the EU with a No Deal Brexit on 29 March 2019. With the Brexit Deal agreed in November 2018 now voted down twice by the House of Commons, it is looking more likely that an agreement won't be reached. MPs voted the deal down for the first time in January by 230 votes, then again on March 12th by 149 votes. A further vote takes place today on whether to avoid a No Deal Brexit with MPs widely expected to block it. But no deal Brexit still looks to be the default option and plans have long since been put into action , costing more than £4billion, in case it happens. The government published 106 "technical notices" outlining the practical effects of No Deal - from driving licences to cats. And it unveiled new tariffs that would slap £1,500 on the cost of a family car from the EU - but leave 87% of goods imports, including steel, tariff free. This could threaten struggling UK industries … [Read more...] about How will No Deal Brexit affect you? 21 changes if UK leaves EU without agreement
Hundreds of jobs are expected to go at Nissan, trade deals worth billions could be axed, and experts are warning the North East will be the worst hit region. And, a No Deal Brexit is becoming a greater reality as the UK prepares to leave the European Union on March 29. When the UK leaves, forecasters are warning the North East's economy could shrink by 6.5% over the next 15 years - and up to 11% in the event of 'no-deal' exit. If there's no deal, 70 international trade deals will be gone , which includes Turkey where the North East exports food worth £480 million to each year, and Norway, which £180m of goods are exported to each year. Nissan announced it would be moving production of its X-Trail model to Japan, saying it was a business decision but also that the UK's unknown relationship with the EU was proving a hindrance. The UK and EU did reach a Brexit deal, but it was voted down in the House of Commons. Downing Street announced ministers were "ramping up" plans … [Read more...] about 21 ways you’ll be affected if UK leaves EU with no deal
GIBRALTAR has said it wants to remain in the EU and that cancelling Article 50 would be ‘the best possible outcome’. The British Overseas Territory made the comments in a press release today, just hours after the UK’s Labour Party announced it would support a second referendum where the choice would be between ‘remain’ and a withdrawal agreement. Gibraltar said: “Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar would back a ‘remain’ outcome in such a referendum, despite the many concerns we have had about the statements and actions of the EU institutions and some Member States since the Article 50 notification was originally given by the UK in April 2017.”It added that it was concerned over British Prime Minister Theresa May’s delaying of a meaningful vote on her Brexit deal until March 12, just two weeks before the UK departure date. If her deal is rejected, MPs will then vote on whether they want to leave the EU with or without a … [Read more...] about GIBRALTAR: Revoking of Article 50 and remaining in EU ‘would be best possible Brexit outcome’
