Jacinda Ardern continues her tour of Australia, promoting tourism and trade today. Australia’s Treasurer warns that inflation will get worse before it gets better. PM pushes back against suggestions the country should move to ‘red’ traffic light setting. As Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern prepares to fly to Sydney on Wednesday, the Reserve Bank of Australia delivered a reminder of the Covid-induced cost of living crunch back in New Zealand, lifting Australia’s official cash rate target by half a basis point to 1.35% . Ardern said on Monday that she expected the scourge of inflation to be widely discussed on this trip. Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers greeted the news of rate rises with a warning: don’t expect things to improve quickly. “While the trajectory of rising interest rates was set before the election, this rate rise is another blow to workers and families already under significant cost of living pressure,” Chalmers said. Ex-gymnast praised for ditching boyfriend at party over “flexibility” jokes
A woman claiming to be a "former professional gymnast" has described how she recently walked out on her boyfriend at a party after one of his friends made what she felt was an inappropriate joke at her expense. While her partner felt she was being a touch too sensitive about the gag, many online felt she was right to leave given the "sexist" undertones of what was said . Sexist jokes are no laughing matter. Psychologists from Western Carolina University found exposure to humor of this kind can lead to a toleration of discrimination and hostile feelings toward women. As Professor Thomas E. Ford put it, "sexist humor acts as a 'releaser' of prejudice." "It can affect men's perceptions of their immediate social surroundings and allow them to feel comfortable with behavioral expressions of sexism without the fear of disapproval of their peers," he explained. Perhaps that's why one woman, posting to Reddit as BeautifulTraffic3197, has been earning so many plaudits online … [Read more...] about Ex-gymnast praised for ditching boyfriend at party over “flexibility” jokes

While face coverings have become a personal choice across much of the UK, some hospitals are making them mandatory once more - although it is not enforceable by law. It comes in response to admissions creeping up to levels not seen since the spring Omicron wave.
