AHEAD of Father's Day, British dads are doing their bit to turn their kids into good drivers. Learners drivers are four times more likely to pass their driving test if taught by their dad compared to a professional driving instructor, according to a recent survey. Conducted by dash cam manufacturer, Nextbase, the study found that around 50 per cent of dads around the country have taught their children to drive. And those young motorists with their father's wisdom were far more likely to get their licence than those who learnt through official sessions with an instructor. Drivers who were taught by a parent proved more comfortable and confident behind the wheel, making them more successful when it came to testing their skills. The study also revealed some interesting trends about parents teaching their kids. As many as 86 per cent of female drivers taught by their mum clashed in an argument behind the wheel, compared to just 48 per cent of those with their dad. But new male drivers were … [Read more...] about Learners are FOUR times more likely to pass their driving test if they are taught by their dad
A new mum was overjoyed to 'pass' her driving test - only to have her licence revoked a day later because she'd actually failed. Kelsie Murphy was celebrating her birthday when the test centre contacted her and told her there had been an admin "error". The 22-year-old says her examiner had gone through the test paper with her after she took the exam in Herne Bay, Kent, last month. She says he showed her she had received only six minors and told her: "You’ve got yourself an early birthday present- you’ve passed!" Kelsie was so delighted she was almost in tears - but her happiness turned to confusion when the test centre got in touch the next day. She says she was told to return her pass certificate, with a "major" error having been recorded during her driving test on April 11. It remains unclear how she ended up being given an initial 'pass' result - but the centre has said there was an "administrative error". It is thought she is the first person in Britain to have had … [Read more...] about New mum overjoyed to pass driving test
THE driving test has undergone its biggest shake-up in more than 20 years - but what will it mean for new learners? The new laws came into force in December 2017 with new manoeuvres to make it more like real-world driving for learners. Here's the lowdown. What are the new driving test laws? The independent driving part of the test will increase from ten to 20 minutes. The ability to use a sat navs will be introduced into the test. The reverse around a corner and turn in the road manoeuvres will no longer be tested. But you’ll still be tested on parallel parking, parking in a bay and pulling up on the right-hand side of the road. You’ll still be asked the "tell me" question at the start of the test but the "show me" question will be asked during the test - for example showing how to use windscreen wipers. The revised list of tasks in order to pass the new driving test also includes asking candidates to pull up on the right hand side of the road and reverse two car … [Read more...] about What are the new driving test rules, will I have to use a sat nav and when will learners have lessons on motorways?
