UK’s rogue trading hotspots revealed – check if your city is on the list

The UK's rogue trade hotspots have been revealed with residents from Newcastle, Belfast and London falling victim the most. More than a third (37 per cent) of homeowners have endured a rogue tradesperson at some point, including 31 per cent in Newcastle, 23 per cent in Belfast and 23 per cent in London. But almost half the amount have experienced this in Glasgow (11 per cent), Cardiff (15 per cent) and Norwich (16 per cent). Plumbing (20 per cent), closely followed by bathroom installation (18 per cent), painting/decorating (18 per cent) and kitchen fitting (16 per cent) are the most prevalent sectors where consumers are being left with disappointing work. Boy, 3, mauled to death in ‘devastating’ dog attack known for ‘previous incidents’

A three-year-old boy died from a dog attack in Rochdale yesterday lunchtime. The toddler was rushed to hospital from a property in Milnrow, Rochdale where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made at this stage and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement. Detective Superintendent Jamie Daniels, of GMP's Public Protection and Serious Crime Division, said: "This is a tragic, devastating incident and our thoughts are with the family at this horrendous time. "We are investigating the incident and previous incidents involving dogs at this address, Manchester Evening News reports . TikTok helps UK book sales hit record levels, Publishers Association says

Total book sales rose 5% to £6.7bn last year, with fiction, children's and young adult all performing well, the Publishers Association said. The organisation said four of the top five young adult bestsellers in 2021 had been driven by the BookTok trend. They included hit titles like They Both Die at the End and We Were Liars. Southampton’s UK City of Culture bid ‘clearly has a strong case’

The city has been shortlisted for the accolade for 2025 and will find out if it has won late next month. Hampshire MPs, led by Romsey and Southampton North's Caroline Nokes, took part in a debate in the House of Commons on Tuesday backing the bid. Culture minister Nigel Huddleston said Southampton is "brimming with culture" and has "a huge amount to offer". Ms Nokes told the debate that she was "heartened by the strength of the partnerships" supporting the bid across the Solent region. She referred to its "rich and varied culture" that "celebrates and enjoys difference and diversity while also working hard to bring people together".
