THE summer holidays are nearly here, with school kids counting down the days until they get their long break. Here are all the key dates you need to know so you can organise any last minute plans. What are the summer term and summer half term dates? Schools are in their summer term now - it runs from Tuesday, April 23, until Wednesday, July 24. These dates will vary depending on the school and you are advised to check your school's website. The period includes half term, which was from Monday, May 27, to Friday, May 31, 2019. Young holidaymakers urged to Stick with your Mates and have a holiday to remember The British Embassy Madrid and British Consulate in Palma have launched a new campaign encouraging young British holidaymakers to “Stick with your Mates”, as part of a FCO global campaign on youth safety. The communications campaign is part of a wider effort to work with local authorities, charities like Street Angels and 24/7, and influencers to encourage young tourists to look out for each other. Building on previous campaigns aimed at young tourists, in particular those visiting popular resorts such as Magaluf and San Antonio, the campaign focuses on how looking after each other and staying with your friends can help young people avoid accidents and serious injuries on holiday. WE’RE standing in a field in the middle of nowhere soaking up the silence – my wife and I, our three-year-old boy . . . and the kids. Well, we were staying on a goat farm, after all. The magnificent Fielding Cottage, in the heart of Norfolk, was the perfect place for the three of us to unwind on a much-needed getaway. It truly was a breath of fresh air to swap bleedin’ Paw Patrol for bleating goats. The field-good factor was quick to rub off on our little lad, who spent most of his time running around the garden at the back of the cottage. The little ball of energy would only stop now and then so he could chat with the goats, who looked on in bemusement. We were staying in one of three cute cottages in a beautifully converted barn just 20 minutes’ drive from Norwich. Consumer group Which? claimed holidaymakers are being conned into booking accommodation which bears little resemblance to images published in brochures and online. In one case, a woman arrived at a hotel in Majorca which was located on a beach – as shown in the photographs – only for a porter to carry her luggage across the road to a sister property. “Surely that’s false advertising,” she said. “I was in sheer disbelief that I wasn’t staying in the hotel pictured.” Another holidaymaker booked a stay at a “VIP” cottage on the Isle of Wight, with promotional images suggesting the property had a well-maintained garden.
