Should Antoine Griezmann sign for Barcelona, Ernesto Valverde will likely have to rejig things in order to find a position for the Frenchman which would see him thrive in the Blaugrana's attack. His arrival will signify Philippe Coutinho's departure, particularly given the Catalan side's need to generate funds this summer in order to fund moves for Griezmann and Matthijs de Ligt, as well as having already paid for Frenkie de Jong. Barcelona are determined to sign the Atletico Madrid forward, despite his decision to turn them down last season. Griezmann can both fit in a 4-3-3 formation, as well as a 4-2-3-1 system, although the former seems more feasible. Having Griezmann, Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele behind Luis Suarez would see Barcelona have a formidable attack, though they may be left more open defensively. Suarez can play as the No.9 with Messi on the right and Griezmann on the left, as the France international can feature in all three positions in attack. … [Read more...] about Where would Griezmann play at Barcelona?
Antoine Griezmann has been linked to Barcelona and Ernesto Valverde has indicated that should the Atletico Madrid forward sign for the Blaugrana, the coaching staff will find him a place in the starting line-up. The former Athletic Club coach hasn't ruled out the Frenchman's transfer to the Catalan side, but he avoided discussing hypothetical scenarios. "I've always said that [Griezmann] is a great player," Valverde told the press prior to Barcelona's game against Eibar. "If he ends up coming to Barcelona, we will see [where we will fit him in the team], but now we are talking about assumptions and about a player who may come or may not. "I've already been asked about other types of assumptions and I didn't say anything." Valverde went on to suggest that Barcelona could use the game against Eibar as preparation for the Copa del Rey final against Valencia on May 25. "Eibar aren't playing for anything," he added, "but they always play with high intensity and we like matches like that … [Read more...] about Valverde: Where would Griezmann fit in the Barcelona team?
An agreement between Antoine Griezmann and Barcelona is close, with a deal that was agreed some time ago set to be signed. After the player's agent was linking his client to Paris Saint-Germain through sporting director Antero Henrique, the forward is now clear that he is on his way to the Camp Nou. The next stop for his lawyer Sevan Karian is Barcelona, with a meeting expected this weekend to seal a deal which has been spoken about ever since last summer, even though he opted to stay at Atletico and sign a new agreement for 23 million euros per season in wages. A year later, Griezmann was just as doubtful on his future but this time has decided to leave, making it clear to club bosses before the season has even come to an end. A specialist in suspense movies, it seems that the only realistic destination for him now is Barcelona as the two parties work to finalise an agreement. The only doubt that could halt the move is whether Barcelona stick to their promise after hearing a number of … [Read more...] about Griezmann’s lawyer to meet with Barcelona imminently

The sanction follows article 11 (1) in the disciplinary regulations of "insufficient organisation". "The member associations, just like the clubs and their players, officials and members, and everyone assigned by UEFA, have to respect the rules of the game, the UEFA regulations, managers and decisions and fulfil the principles of ethical conduct, loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship," this article states. Ajax have been fined 52,500 euros for throwing objects and further crowd incidents in their quarter-final with Juventus on April 10. Tottenham have been fined 10,000 euros for improper conduct of their officials and their coach in the match against Ajax on April 30. Pep Guardiola has assured Barcelona fans that Manchester City will not try to sign Antoine Griezmann this summer. The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Barcelona after announcing that he will be leaving Atletico Madrid at the end of this season. "All the reporters from Barcelona, don't worry," Guardiola answered when asked about Griezmann on Friday. "We can't afford him. City aren't going to buy him." Barcelona are among several top European clubs looking to activate Griezmann's lowered 120 million euro release clause, but Paris Saint-Germain also aren't one of them. "Griezmann can play in any team in the world, but signing him isn't a realistic responsibility for us," said PSG boss Thomas Tuchel. "We have other priorities, we have to start by strengthening the defence." Griezmann's agent will travel to meet Barcelona at their Ciudad Condal base in the coming days to discuss any potential move. … [Read more...] about Guardiola rules Manchester City out of Griezmann race
