Netflix series Bridgerton is based on American author Julia Quinn's novel series of the same name. Each book – and in the case of the show each season – focuses on a different romantic couple with the first outing following the love story between Simon, the Duke of Hastings (played by Regé-Jean Page ) and Daphne Bridgerton's (Phoebe Dynevor). Season two will move away from the pair and concentrate on two new star-crossed lovers.

Is Eloise in love with Penelope?
Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) were introduced in season one of the show.
The pair were neighbours and had a life-long friendship which seemed to be even stronger than some of the matches being made on the marriage mart.
They were constantly conspiring and speculating on events unfolding in society as they tried to guess the identity of mysterious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown.
Penelope and Eloise's friendship was one of the highlights of season one of Bridgerton with fans adoring the onscreen chemistry between Derry Girls star Coughlan and Jessie of Line of Duty fame.

The friendship between the two young actresses has translated from the screen to off-camera with Jessie making an appearance on Coughlan's Instagram account with the pair pictured on a night out together.
Unsurprisingly, some viewers may have started hoping a romance may have blossomed between the two characters onscreen given their deep affection for one another.
While Eloise has a deep love for Penelope, it's a platonic one with the Bridgerton viewing her friend as more of a sister.
In turn, Penelope only has eyes for Eloise's brother Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), whom she has been holding a torch for for most of her life.

As readers of Quinn's novels will know, the fifth instalment of the Bridgerton series – titled To Sir Phillip, With Love – sees Eloise finally finding her own husband.
After Penelope marries and retires her infamous scandal sheet author, Eloise will be feeling lost as the lone singleton who believed she and her friend would be spinsters together for life.
Instead, she begins a correspondence with Sir Phillip Crane (Chris Fulton) which becomes something more after making the impulsive decision to depart London and visit his country estate without a chaperone with a typically steamy outcome.
To Sir Phillip, With Love will be an equally raunchy romp but before then fans have three more instalments to delight them following Netflix's multi-renewal of Bridgeton.
Seasons two, three and four have been greenlit by the American streaming platform with the franchise also getting several spin-offs, including one focusing on Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) and Edmund's (Rupert Evans) romance.
Another story will be an origin story of sorts, exploring the rise of Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) and Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh).
Depending on how popular these shows are, there could be more from Quinn’s universe with Netflix even venturing into more dramas.
For now, season two will be the next one hitting screens as viewers see rake extraordinaire and head of the Bridgerton family Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) meeting his match in Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
Season two will be based on the novel The Viscount Who Loved Me and promises to be a sumptuous treat for all.
Netflix has yet to share details of a precise release date for Bridgerton season two but we do know it will be at some point in 2022.
Although it's yet to be confirmed the second outing could aptly drop around Valentine's Day which would be in keeping with the show's big theme of love.
Bridgerton season 2 will be released on Netflix in 2022
