Famous chef, José Andrés, penned the letter about the Duke and Duchess, saying that, “In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don't know, the duke and duchess have compassion for the people they don't know.” Andrés founded the World Kitchen charity that partners with the Archewell Foundation, the couple’s non-profit organization. The photo editor of the magazine, Dilys Ng, stated that the cover photograph of Meghan and Harry, "captures their powerful dynamics as equal partners".
The couple have faced criticism in the UK, after continuously condemning British tabloids for the “intense media scrutiny” that they faced during their time as working royals, and recurring demands for privacy. Since their move in what was a bid for a “more private life,” they have signed a reportedly £150 million pound Netflix deal, an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey and now have done a TIME100 front cover.
Best-selling author and royal editor of the Evening Standard, Robert Jobson, has spoken on Sunrise about the criticism the Duke and Duchess has faced.
Jobson is asked: “We now have Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who have made TIME 100 magazine’s list of influential people, Jobbo, where exactly do they stand in the influential stakes?”

He stated that: “I think TIME magazine were probably having a bit of a laugh here because you’ve also got Dolly Parton and Britney Spears on there, so I’m not quite sure how this was worked out.”
“It’s great for them, they’re on the front cover, they want to be on the front cover and out there for their charitable causes.”
He added that the couple has faced ridicule about the photographs on social media, saying “He’s been getting a bit of stick, Harry in particular out here because he’s been accused of actually looking like he’s her hairdresser on the front cover.”
“It’s one of those weird photographs, if you look at it from a distance it looks like his head has sort of been pasted on, like it’s floating around.”
“Of course the height difference, with him trying to show they’re on a parity. All very good, all very woke, and good luck to them really, they’re on the front cover of TIME, which used to mean something.”

The Duke and Duchess have been mocked for the front cover as it was slammed “unnatural and staged.”
There was also reproval of photo’s of the couple being “heavily edited,” with one publication dubbing the Prince, “heir-brushed Harry.”
The images were taken by photographer Pari Dukovic at their £11 million mansion in Montecito, California.
Some fans have praised the couple on social media, dubbing the images as “powerful.”
The couple lost out at the 2021 Emmy awards lastnight, as their exclusive “bombshell” interview lost out to C NN’s Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy.
The Oprah interview was nominated in the Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special category.
