The path to the record victory may be easier for Djokovic this year
On the US Open, Djokovic said, “I know I have a very special and big chance in front of me. I’m ready to exhibit my best game. This opportunity that I have got to create a record inspires me to show my finest game. Many top players are not participating this year, which could make it easier for Djokovic to win the title here. At the same time, he said, “I had always dreamt of doing something big in sports. I am glad that I am getting a chance to complete all of it in a single year.”
Several big names including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, defending champion Dominic Thiem, Stan Wawrinka and Juan Martin del Potro have withdrawn from the US Open this year. Djokovic will face second seeded Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Olympic champion Alexander Zverev in the challenge.
“The kind of tennis Djokovic has played this year is amazing,” said legendary tennis player Nadal. I sincerely hope that by winning the US open he will have these huge records to his name.”
