Lewis Hamilton will start the Hungarian Grand Prix on pole position after qualifying four-tenths ahead of Max Verstappen. Valtteri Bottas will join his Mercedes team-mate on the front row, with Verstappen behind in third.
Red Bull felt they should have had a faster qualification lap but Hamilton slowed Verstappen down while coming out of the pits in Q3 with just two minutes remaining.
The seven-time world champion’s action meant that Sergio Perez, who was in the trailing pack, was unable to complete another out lap so he starts sixth.
Hamilton has come under fire for his “gamesmanship” but Red Bull team principal Christian Horner played down the actions.
"It's a bit of gamesmanship," Christian Horner told Sky F1. "Lewis had got a hell of a lap in the bank and then obviously he's just backing things up and obviously doesn't want to give our cars a clean run.
"But it's his right to do that, he's got the track position so we haven't got a major issue. It's all about tomorrow now."

He told Sky Sports: “I think it’s going to be tough against Mercedes and the first lap is going to be crucial, the first 500 metres are going to be crucial.
“The soft tyre does have an advantage on the first lap – it’s going to be fascinating to see how it pans out and we’re going to give it everything we’ve got.”

“It’s stressing him out and then you had the contrast to Lewis, who just shrugged his shoulders and was all relaxed.
“So, again, a little bit of position of strength for Lewis and Mercedes at the moment in how everything has been dealt with.”
