Summer (played by Harriet Bibby) has been having a turbulent time of late on Coronation Street , having been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as well as her adoptive fathers Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) getting engaged. The youngster has also formed a friendship with the mysterious Will (Ben Hackett), who she has no idea worked with Todd to get Billy and Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) to break up. However, as she begins to form a bond with Aadi (Adam Hussain) in upcoming scenes on the ITV soap, it seems danger could be on the horizon.
The drama begins as Summer and Aadi decide to spend some time together in Victoria Gardens after the stress of their exams.
Thinking they need something to make them relax, Dev Alahan’s (Jimmi Harkishin) son offers his friend a fruit cider.
Although she is still in the early stages of her diabetes diagnosis, the young schoolgirl thinks one bottle won’t disrupt her blood sugars.
Enjoying their day together, the youngsters have very different reactions to the drink when they get home.
Unfortunately for Aadi, he begins to feel extremely unwell and it’s not long before Todd realises his adoptive daughter could be in trouble.

Todd knocks at the door as it seems Summer is being unresponsive from the inside and when he doesn’t get an answer, he takes drastic action.
Needing entry, he kicks the door down and finds the young school girl unconscious on the kitchen floor and it’s not long before he is ringing an ambulance.
It’s not been confirmed what will happen to the youngster but given her recent diagnosis, the situation could turn deadly.
This is because when people with type 1 diabetes drink alcohol, they have a different reaction to someone who is not living with the condition.
Due to the sugars in the drink, blood sugar levels can spike for a time before plummeting at an alarming rate.

I am very proud
A person who is living with the condition can fall into a hypoglycaemic coma and will need medical assistance to regain consciousness.
If they don’t seek urgent help, they could develop complications or in the worst instance, die as a result of the alcohol messing up their blood sugars.
According to a study conducted in 2018, people living with diabetes are 10 times more likely to suffer from a fatality as a result of drinking.
In a sample from people living in Finland with the condition, the study found cirrhosis of the liver was the predominant cause of death.
This coincided with poor control of diabetes, which in recent scenes, Summer has been struggling with as she has been terrified of doing her own injections.

The Finnish study also showed men who take insulin to treat diabetes were 6.9 times more likely to die from an alcohol-related illness.
In women, this was even higher at 10.6 times more likely to lead to a fatality so could Summer meet her maker after a drunken afternoon with Aadi?
If she were to die, the young schoolboy would become public enemy number one as Todd and Billy lash out at him.
They would pin all the blame on him as he was the one who gave her the alcohol, leaving the youngster heartbroken.
Unfortunately, the residents of Weatherfield could turn against him, meaning Aadi would have no one to confide in about Summer’s death.
Aadi’s twin sister, Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) is also best friends with Summer so she could turn on her brother, too.
It seems this could kickstart a brand new storyline for the young schoolboy but how would he cope with the death hanging over his head?
With Summer’s health taking centre stage recently, the actress who plays the schoolgirl, Harriet, has spoken out on taking on such a responsibility.
The soap star said: “Before playing Summer, I didn't know a lot about type 1 diabetes, and it was so helpful to speak to Diabetes UK to understand more about the condition.
“It was amazing to talk to someone who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a similar age to Summer and hear first-hand about her diagnosis.”
“It will definitely help me as an actor to portray someone living with the condition,” she continued in a statement released by Diabetes UK.
“I am very proud to be playing this role and everyone at Coronation Street hopes Summer's story resonates with families with people living with diabetes.
“I hope it will help the general public understand a bit more of what it is like to live with the condition and learn the signs and symptoms of diabetes.”
Fans have been reacting on Twitter to the storyline, with one writing: “Summer cannot let her diabetes get in the way of her life prospects #Corrie.”
Another posted: “Summer has to take her diabetes seriously and Billy and Todd are worried about her and Paul is so good with Summer bless #corrie.”
