Nearly one-third of all US nurses who have died of coronavirus are Filipino – despite making up just 4% of workforce

The coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on all healthcare workers, but perhaps none more so than those in the Filipino community. Almost one-third of all American nurses who have died of COVID-19 since January are Filipino – including men and women who immigrated from the Philippines or were born in the US. This is despite the fact that they make up just four percent of all registered nurses across the country. Some of them were weeks away from retirement. Others returned to work when the number of cases began spiking in mid-March.
