Doctors in the South West of England were sent disposable gloves that had ‘clearly been used’ and have been warned not to use them in another PPE blunder. The gloves, sent to GPs in parts of Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Somerset, appeared to have been used already but then packaged in unopened boxes. In a letter from NHS bosses in the region medics were told to stop using gloves from the affected batch, which had all been delivered since November 12, Pulse reported. It comes after a damning report from the National Audit Office today accused the Government of wasting £10billion by paying over the odds for PPE it had failed to stockpile. The UK was hit by a shortage of vital equipment, including face masks, gloves and aprons and gowns, at the start of the epidemic and had to scramble to buy it. Orders were shipped in from overseas and multi-million pound contracts given to dubious or newly set up companies cashing in on a disorganised rush to buy the kit.
