IT’S been six weeks since the UK went into lockdown which saw fast-food stores, along with everything else, close up shop.
Since then, food enthusiasts and takeaway fans have been trying their best to fill the gaping hole in their hearts by replicating their favourite treats at home.

Desperate parents have also been trying to provide their kids with a sense or normality throughout lockdown, and with that comes the occasional meal from McDonald’s.
But with the food chain off-limits, parents and non-parents alike have been forced to think on their feet, and not only whip up an epic burger and chips meal from home, but many have been taking it a step further by recreating its iconic packaging too.
While the concept is far from new (fans have been doing it since lockdown began), it’s still amazing to see the lengths parents will go to provide their kids with just a few minutes of happiness while they scoff down nuggets and burgers from McDonald’s.
Some have taken a marker to paper to draw the famous golden arches, while others have used actual packaging they’d held onto from when the stores were open and running.

Taking part in the creative process, one clever dad thought to recreate the iconic red and yellow packaging using leftover cereal boxes and had printed authentic logos online, instead of making his own – and it looks just like the actual McDonald’s packaging.
Complete with golden chicken nuggets, shoe-string fries and a burger, a proud mum shared a snap of the home meal to Facebook, showing off her hubby’s creative work.
Posting to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group, she said: “These were Absolutely free to make for the kids. My hubby made the templates on his computer then printed them on paper before sticking them onto cereal boxes.
“Kids were over the moon. Burgers and chicken nuggets we already had from farm foods.”
While it’s been done before, many parents still praise the idea for keeping their little ones happy “throughout such challenging times”.
One person wrote: “Well done to you amazing parents, creating something fun and entertaining for you kids and looking after all your mental wellbeing under difficult circumstances.”
While another added: “Kids are finding all this very hard and if the occasional McDonald’s fake away makes them smile- go for it “
Meanwhile, many others were encouraged to share their own fakeaway solutions they’ve made for their kids throughout lockdown.
Some McDonald’s stores are set to re-open on May 13, but will initially launch for delivery orders only – and with a reduced menu in place.
Those lucky enough to live close to one of the few re-opened stores will be able to indulge in their favourite menu items again, while for others, fakeaways will have to do – for now at least.
