Love under lock-down might mean that date nights look a little different right now, but it shouldn’t mean romance goes out the window.
While restaurants and bars are temporarily a no-go, it only means we have to get creative and put a little more thought into our date nights.
From homemade pizza nights to getting competitive with board games and switching off with a new series, here we bring you eight great date night ideas.
1. Get the most out of your movie night
With the launch of the Disney+ channel and plenty of other streaming services, now is the perfect time to watch those films that you promised yourself ‘get through one day’.
Complete your at home movie set up with a popcorn machine. For cinema style popcorn without the calories we love the Duronic Popcorn Maker. A healthier alternative to the traditional pan-cooked corn, which often needs oil or butter to cook in, this gadget uses hot air for a great film snack.
The built-in doughnut-shaped bowl sits on the machine and neatly collects all of the cooked popcorn as it pops out of the machine. Get creative with any ingredients you want to add to it for extra flavour.
2. Make your own authentic wood-fired pizzas
While the Ooni oven is an investment at just over £200, you will reap the benefits of years of perfect wood-fired cooking. The Ooni 3 is the world’s most portable wood-fired pizza oven, bringing incredible pizza to your very own garden.
Reaching temperatures of 500C in just ten minutes, Ooni 3 will cook a true wood-fired, stone-baked Neapolitan pizza in just 60 seconds – a whole lot quicker than your local pizza delivery.
The perfect BBQ fixture can also be used to cook steaks, salmon, vegetables and flat breads, meaning you are sure to be the host with the most.
3. Make a date at cocktail hour
A cocktail kit is a great way to bring a little more flair to your evenings.
Whether you want to get creative or competitive and have your own cocktail off, a DIY kit like this one from is a great way to impress a loved one.
Unlike most cocktail kits that only have one serving per person, this DIY cocktail kit has all the ingredients to make up to six great Margarita-style drinks.
The box contains five different bottles of ingredients and a recipe card.
4. Get competitive over a board game
Switch off your phones and the TV and instead reach for a good old-fashioned board game.
Bananagrams is one of the most popular games at the moment and ideal for two players. Much like Scrabble, players are given letter tiles before racing to complete a crossword-like structure before the other player.
For those wanting to try before you buy, Asmodee has created free ‘print & play’ versions of some of the most popular family games, for anyone to print, use, and enjoy from home.
5. Plan a fondue night
Whether you prefer chocolate or cheese, a fondue set is the ultimate in sharing fare and a great way of indulging with your partner.

8. For a retro new hobby
