Port Vale are out of the Carabao Cup after a 2-1 defeat at home to Burton Albion.
Mark Cullen’s 53rd-minute penalty wasn’t enough for the Vale who fell behind to Liam Boyce’s ninth-minute opener. Cullen levelled after Cristian Montano’s cross was handled in the area, but Scott Fraser netter the winner nine minutes from time.
Vale’s defeat wasn’t for lack of effort as they ran their League One opponents close, but didn’t quite have the quality to go through.
The Vale return to League Two action on Saturday when they are away to Salford City. John Askey’s side will be backed by a 1,400 sell-out away following.
