Sheyi Ojo has revealed a shopping trip in Glasgow convinced him his switch to Rangers was the right move.
The 21-year-old becomes boss Steven Gerrard‘s fifth signing of the summer after agreeing a one-year loan deal from Liverpool and has already been mobbed by well-wishers.
Ojo, who has had loan spells at Wigan Athletic, Wolves, Fulham and Reims, admits the time is now for him to make the grade and believes Rangers are the perfect club to fulfil his potential.
The England youth international watched fellow Anfield graduate Ryan Kent grab his big chance at Ibrox and he is determined to do the same.
But a journey to kit out his new house in Scotland was when he was greeted by fans wishing him well, and Ojo admitted it was the “best initial feeling” he had witnessed from his different spells out on loan.
He told Rangers TV: “I’m really excited, obviously my first impression around the training ground, seeing all the players and I feel really settled in and I’m ready to go.
“The last 18 months to two years I’ve not really had that consistent opportunity of football, and when I heard Rangers were involved, I spoke to my representative, the gaffer Steven Gerrard and I spoke to Liverpool as well.
“I think all the parties thought this was the right destination for me and my career this season.
“I’ve only been here a couple of days and I went to the shops yesterday, I was just sorting out my apartment and people were saying to me, ‘Good luck for this season’.
“I feel like a part of it already and it’s the best initial feeling I’ve had of all the clubs I’ve been at on loan. I have a really good sense that it’s going to be a really good season.”
The former MK Dons youth player also said there was interest from several other teams, but after chats to Rangers goalkeeper Andy Firth and ex-Liverpool loanee Ovie Ejaria he knew it was the right place to go.
He added: “I spoke to Andy and Ovie as he was here last season as well and I know a few other players who play in this league as well and with all the advice I’ve got it was an easy decision.
“There was obviously other clubs I could have gone to but this was the right decision for me.
“I spoke to Andy Firth before the Rangers vs Celtic game as well where Rangers won 2-0 and I was just watching the atmosphere, the stadium, the fans, it was just really exciting and it’s obviously something I’m looking forward to being a part of.
“I’m already with Liverpool, and if you play for them big clubs then you have to deal with the pressure and for what i want to be able to achieve with my career I’ve got to be able to deal with that and it’s going to be a good challenge.”
