Ada Daniel celebrated her 104th birthday at Codnor Park residential home surrounded by her family, friends, staff and residents. She was born in Ambergate to her mum Adalicia and dad James and had six siblings and she went to Ambergate school until she was 14. She then worked on Lawn Farm as a Land Girl where she met her husband Percy Douglas Daniel, they married on May 17, 1944. They bought their cottage on Street Lane Ripley, and Ada was a keen gardener growing her own fruit and vegetables and enjoyed giving it to family and friends. Ada’s husband died aged 73 and she continued to live alone in their cottage and walked every Friday into Ripley until she was 97 years of age. She went to Codnor Park residential home after living independently until the age of 103 and enjoys her days talking to staff and residents. Ada said: “I have had a lovely birthday and can’t believe everyone has made made such an fuss I’m only 104.” Ada is photographed with Gladys Jhonson, her primary carer at Codnor Park which is part of the Ashmere Derbyshire group of care homes.
