Man City have become the first men’s team in English football history to win the treble after winning the FA Cup at Wembley.
A rampant City side annihilated runners up Watford in the final 6-0, with goals from David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and two goals each for Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus.
City equalled a 116-year record of the biggest victory in an FA Cup final which was set by neighbour’s Bury in 1903 when they defeated Derby 6-0. Pep Guardiola’s side also became the first team to ever win 50 games in a single season.
Though City continue to smash records and reach unprecedented heights, it’s the complete sweep of the domestic trophies on offer that will cause the celebrations.
Though Arsenal Ladies did win the treble in 2007, it’s never happened in the men’s game until today which may come as a surprise.
It is actually an incredibly rare feet and has only ever been done four times in Europe’s top five leagues, PSG have achieved it three times and Bayern Munich once in 2000.
Man City FA Cup reaction
Manchester United came the closest to becoming the first team to do so in 1994 as they won the FA Cup, the league and made it to the league cup final, but were beaten 3-1 by Aston Villa at the old Wembley.
The rarity of the feat makes it even more impressive an achievement for City, whose dominance over English football shows no signs of ending any time soon.
