Real Madrid Castilla’s chase for promotion to LaLiga 123 gained momentum on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Cartagena in first leg of their promotion play-off quarter-final. A double from Dani Gomez and a goal from Cristo Gonzalez saw Castilla race into a 3-0 lead before the break. Jorge de Frutos was heavily involved in the opening two strikes, providing assists for both of Gomez’s goals. Cristo, Gomez and De Frutos have 38 goals between them this season, while talisman Cristo has 21 to his name, as well as one against Melilla for the first team in the Copa del Rey. Cartagena had Alberto Aguilar sent off with 15 minutes to go in the second half before Santi Jara managed to pull a goal back in the closing stages. The two will face off again in the second leg in Cartagena next Saturday as Castilla look to earn promotion back to the second tier of Spanish football after five years in the Segunda B.
