Valencia set to exercise purchase option with Cheryshev Valencia and Espanyol endured a frustrating evening at Mestalla, with neither side able to make the breakthrough. The first half saw the match’s biggest chance as Valencia’s Kevin Gameiro rattled the bar on 28 minutes. Each side had a number of significant absentees such as Rodrigo Moreno and Gabriel Paulista for the hosts and Sergio Garcia and Didac Vila for the visitors. Valencia continued to dominate proceedings in the second half, but Espanyol were equal to anything that Los Che threw at them. Ezequiel Garay had a good chance with a headed effort while Dani Parejo forced a good save out of Diego Lopez. At the other end, Neto suffered a broken finger in his denial of an Espanyol effort. The match ended in a draw, in what has become an all too familiar story for Valencia this season.
