Winscombe Football Club honoured the life of their president, Hugh Fountain, by naming their stand in his honour. Hugh first played for Winscombe in 1953 aged 15 and carried on for another 26 years. Not only playing for the club, he set up the junior section, which today boasts 13 squads. Many of the juniors have progressed to play for the three senior teams. Hugh went on to manage the first team and in October 2016 he was made club president. Hugh was also a staunch fundraiser, both on his own and with his wife, Jill, who helped with the supporters club and setting up of the club’s tea hut. This has provided warming refreshments on many a cold winter’s day and without which the club’s finances would be severely depleted. Hugh’s son and grandson have also gone on to represent the first team. Hugh sadly passed away 12 months to the day of this presentation and is sadly missed by all who knew him – a real gentleman.
