Ely Tigers remain in the London 3 Eastern Counties title race following Saturday’s emphatic 53-3 home victory over Woodbridge. The hosting Tigers ran in a total of nine tries throughout the contest, the first of which came courtesy of Matt McCarthy after he found space down the blindside and raced clear to dot down. It was then over to Jacob Muncey, who put Ely in command with two tries in quick succession. His first came on the back of a dominant Tigers maul, while his second arrived when Tom Holloway disrupted Woodbridge’s line-out from 30 metres, before fending off several opponents and then releasing Muncey. Woodbridge kicked a penalty just before the interval, which proved to be the only time they troubled the scoreboard. Ely were dominant after the restart, with McCarthy claiming his second try. Paul Dewey also recorded a brace, accompanied by further tries from Luke Turner, Nathan Brooks and James Buckland. Third-placed Ely, who are five points adrift of table-topping Wymondham, travel to basement side Ipswich YM on Saturday (2pm).
