Dad-of-three Stephen Leyland from Holywood was just 33 when he died. His widow Laura says regular asthma reviews could have saved his life. Figures from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency this week revealed 38 people died from asthma in 2017, a similar number to the previous year. And while the number of reported deaths has fallen slightly in the past few years – with a high of 44 in 2015 – it’s still at the same level recorded in 2001, suggesting the message on the dangers isn’t getting through.
