A 14-year-old schoolgirl is critically injured after being hit by a car in Heywood. The incident, at the corner of Pilsworth Road and Bridge Street happened just hours after a 10-year-old girl was critically injured in another road traffic accident less than half a mile away outside Heywood Sports Complex. The two incidents are not linked although it’s believed some of the same police officers were at both traumatic scenes last night. Resident Stacey Boston said: “I heard police coming down at about 8pm. I looked outside and within seconds it was packed with police and ambulances. “I went out later and they just said that someone had been knocked down. There was a lot of cars and a lot of people about.” This morning only a scrap of police tape remained from the scene last night. Residents complained that the junction, which brings together two very busy roads but has just one set of pedestrian signals, is unsafe. It leaves people with no option but to cross Pilsworth Road at a blind corner. “It’s dangerous,” added Stacey. “I do worry for my kids round here definitely. There’s no crossing outside my door – it’s not as safe as it could be.” It is understood an arrest was made at the scene last night and investigations continue. Anyone with information is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police.
