The construction of the China-funded 30km road network on Tanna has been completed. China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) as the contractor of phase I of the Vanuatu Road Rehabilitation and Construction Project is currently applying the line markings on the pavement before the official opening, this is expected soon. The US$50 million project started in 2015 at two project sites in Vanuatu – Malekula and Tanna. The Government of Vanuatu sourced a loan from the EXIM Bank of China in 2013 to finance the two major infrastructure projects. On Tanna, the project started from Whitegrass in the west to Greenpoint in the southern part of the island. It is understood that the government is considering a second phase of the project.
