Notts County crashed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle as they were thumped 4-0 by League One side Barnsley at Oakwell. The Magpies had a goal ruled out for offside inside the opening two minutes of the first half when Rob Milsom’s free-kick sailed straight in. Nathan Thomas then wasted a good chance when picked out by Enzio Boldewijn following a rapacious counter attack. But Barnsley began to show why they are flying high in League One with Cauley Woodrow firing at Ross Fitzsimons. Kieffer Moore then wasted a glorious opportunity to give the hosts the lead when he skied over after being picked out by Zeki Fryers. Having gone in goalless at the break, Notts’ hard work was undone in the early stages of the second half when a sliced clearance by Elliott Ward was thumped in by Woodrow. And before Notts could even regain their composure the found themselves further behind. After Elliott Hewitt had a pass intercepted, Barnsley broke through Brad Potts, whose low cross was thumped in first time by Fryers. That gave Barnsley momentum with Alex Mowatt driving wide of the target as they sensed blood and they finally scored a third through Potts, who tapped home Moore’s cross. Moore then added his name to the scoresheet when he headed in at the back post in what was a sobering afternoon for the Magpies.
