Saturday, 10 November 2018 – Crime A man has been fined £300 for drunk and disorderly behaviour at Noble’s Hospital’s accident and emergency department. Police were called to the hospital after Paulinho Dos Santos, of Strang Close, Douglas, became verbally abusive to staff. He was fined £300 and banned from purchasing or being sold alcohol for three months. Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how, on November 3 at 6.20pm, Dos Santos was at accident and emergency at the hospital. He was said to have become verbally aggressive prompting staff to call the police. Dos Santos, aged 47, was said to have calmed down and been discharged but then his anger grew again outside as he shouted and swore. He was eventually arrested and was said to be slurring his words, unsteady on his feet and smelling of alcohol. Drunk Mr Swain said that medical staff had not wanted to make a complaint. Defence advocate Kate Alexander asked that the offence be dealt with by way of a financial penalty and asked for credit to be given for her client’s guilty plea. ’Unfortunately, Mr Dos Santos has a dependance on alcohol and significant health problems,’ said the advocate. ’He has undertaken a detox since the incident and hopes he may be able to overcome these difficulties. ’He was drunk when he attended the hospital.’ Dos Santons appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes for sentencing on Tuesday.
