A massive fire at a pig farm in western Germany has resulted in the deaths of 2500 animals. A large barn went up in flames early on Saturday in the small town of Mettingen in the state of North Rhine Westphalia, police said. Some 100 firefighters were involved in the operation to put out the fire. “The fire brigade will probably be busy until midday,” a police spokesman said. No people were injured in the blaze, the cause of which is not yet known.
