Two fire engines from the town’s fire station were sent to the scene, following a call at 12.53pm. A spokeswoman for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: “The fire brigade provided protective standby.” A post on the service’s Facebook page on Friday added: “Following earlier damage to gas & electric mains, we are dealing with a fire. “Electricity is now isolated and gas is being capped.” The post added that there was “no danger to the public.” The fire crews were stood down at 5.11pm.
