It was a night of high emotions at Newcastle Arena as some of boxing’s finest took to the ring on Tyneside. In front of a packed crowd, there was everything you could wish for in an explosive night of action. Top of the bill was Forest Hall’s Lewis Ritson ‘s European title fight against Francesco Patera. Ritson, a big Newcastle United fan, was cheered into the ring by a raucous reception – led by none other than Geordie legend Alan Shearer himself. Shearer met Ritson in the build up to the big fight, and promised he would be ringside, cheering on loud and proud as the fighter took to the stage. As you can see in the video above, he didn’t disappoint. In the ring, Ritson started well, but Patera came back strongly in the middle of the fight, with many calling it level after eight rounds. However, Ritson weathered the storm – but with the fight going the full distance it was a very close call. The judges called it in Patera’s favour , although only just. All three judges scored it 116-112, one in Ritson’s favour, two in Patera’s. Earlier in the night, there were wins for Joe Laws, Craig Glover, Tommy Ward, Terry Wilkinson and Laurence Osueke among others.
