‘Not good enough’ was the verdict of manager Matt Easton after Spalding United’s early exit from the Buildbase FA Trophy. He admitted the Tulips had been ‘bullied’ by Carlton Town strikers Mamoke Akaunu and Aaron Opoku during the 4-1 home defeat on Saturday. Easton said: “We’ve taken two steps backwards. “We were weak physically and the players need to show more than that. “We stood up to it for about half an hour but we didn’t create enough. “I thought Kegan Everington was the pick of the bunch in our midfield but, overall, we can’t accept that any more. “This knocks us back and we need to find strength of character. The players must stand up and be counted. “I’ll need to make more changes and I’ll keep doing that until I get it right. “If any players are left out, they will have to accept it because maybe I need to be more ruthless as well. It starts with me. “After the previous couple of games, we came out saying we should have won but there’s no way we could repeat that on Saturday. We were lucky to come away with this scoreline. “It was not good enough but we must be sensible in terms of player exits until we get arrivals to strengthen the squad over the next couple of weeks.” Spalding have now gone four years since winning any tie in the FA Trophy – and the current run is 12 games without a victory.
