Cardiff City’s Premier League clash against Brighton was marred in first half controversy as Seagulls midfielder Dale Stephens saw red. Stephens dived in on Cardiff’s Greg Cunningham in the 34th minute, missing the ball and leading referee Martin Atkinson to show his red card. It left Brighton – who had gone ahead through Lewis Dunk’s headed goal – with just 10 men and Cardiff with a double boost after Callum Paterson had levelled it up at 1-1. On first view, it looked like an obvious red card, although many fans on social media – as well as Sky Sports’ Liam Rosenior and perenially outspoken pundit Chris Sutton believed it was a yellow card challenge. Stephens walked without major complaints from the Brighton players and staff and Cardiff’s players surrounded both referee and offending player, believing Cunningham could have suffered serious damage. Plenty thought a red card was the right call But many disagreed What do you think? Join the debate on our Cardiff City Online Facebook page.
