A brilliant PhD student is embroiled in a row with a Cambridge College over allegations it disclosed he was a Brexiteer to the technology company funding his research. Pembroke College informed the company which employed Pratyay Poddar and paid for his research that he was a “tricky customer” who had “campaigned for Brexit”, according to a document seen by The Sunday Telegraph. About a month after the character reference was allegedly given by Pembroke to the Japanese company Hitachi, its funding for Mr Poddar’s research into quantum computers was withdrawn and his employment terminated.
