Lily Allen famously had a long-running feud with Cheryl, with the two popstars trading insults for the best part of a decade.
But it turns out the war had nothing to do with hatred, or even nabbing headlines.
Nope – it was to do with sexual frustration.
Lily has claimed that she picked a fight with the Girls Aloud singer because she was angry she had yet to achieve an orgasm.
According to The Guardian Weekend magazine , in Lily's autobiography My Thoughts Exactly, the 33-year-old writes: 'Sorry Cheryl, I was angry because I hadn't come yet.'
Journalist Sophie Heawood asked whether she had never masturbated at that time, despite singing frankly about sex and relationships in her music.
Lily replied: 'Oh, I had had a go. But I felt funny about it. It's like what I said about not having a sense of self – when I started doing it, I had to tell myself, "You deserve this, this is OK." It was an effort to get to that point.'
The feud between Lily and Cheryl began in 2006 when Lily released the song Cheryl Tweedy, in which she sang: 'I wish my life was a little less seedy / Why am I always so greedy? / Wish I looked just like Cheryl Tweedy.'
While Cheryl saw the song as complimentary, Lily was peeved when she thought Cheryl was being dismissive of the Smile B-side, and wrote on her blog: 'Cheryl, I don't really want to look like you. I was being ironic. Nobody really wants to look like you, they just think they do.'
Months later while on Gordon Ramsay's The F Word, Cheryl called the singer 'a chick with a dick' – and all hell broke loose.
Lily wrote on her blog: 'Cheryl, if you're reading this, I may not be as pretty as you but at least I write and SING my own songs without the aid of autotune.
'I must say taking your clothes off, doing sexy dancing and marrying a rich footballer must be very gratifying, your mother must be so proud, stupid bitch.'
In My Thoughts Exactly, Lily admits she regrets that post, and said that at the time she believed that Girls Aloud were 'colluding with the oppressors' by wearing skimpy clothes.
She wrote: 'Liberated? I was jealous. I was frustrated. I was struggling with my own issues around sexuality. I'd never even had an orgasm.
'And then here were these gorgeous girls – my peers, colleagues so to speak, and co-workers – taking their clothes off with wild abandon and being loved and rewarded for it.'
Thankfully, the girls' feud ended before this autobiography.
Lily told Q Magazine in 2014: 'I wish that whole thing hadn't happened. I like Cheryl.
'She's good on The X Factor, she's pretty and she's got balls. I like women who do well.'
And the following year, the popstars posed for pictures together at the British Fashion Awards.
Lily gets candid about her life and career ups and downs in her autobiography – even detailing a harrowing incident where she was sexually assaulted by a record executive.
My Thoughts Exactly is out on 21 September.
