By David Rosenfeld | [email protected] | The Beach ReporterPUBLISHED: September 17, 2018 at 3:32 pm | UPDATED: September 17, 2018 at 10:21 pm Yusaku Maezawa, 42-year-old Japanese entrepreneur and founder of the fashion brand ZOZO, will be the first paying passenger on board a SpaceX flight around the moon scheduled for some time in 2023, the private rocket maker announced Monday, Sept. 17. “For me this is a project that is very meaningful,” Maezawa said in front of about 200 SpaceX employees and journalists gathered at the company’s Hawthorne headquarters for the big announcement. “I thought about giving back to the world and how this can contribute to world peace.” Accompanied by SpaceX founder Elon Musk, Maezawa said he planned to invite up to eight artists to join him on the roughly five-day voyage that he is calling “Dear Moon.” Maezawa presented a fanciful, hopeful image of the gathering of artists – ranging from musicians to painters to sculptors – on board the whimsically-named Big Falcon Rocket as it circles the moon and gains perspective on the universe. “What if Picasso or Michael Jackson could go to the moon?” Maezawa contemplated. “What wonderful masterpieces would they have created?” Maezawa would not… Read full this story
