The airline had previously said the missing person had safely exited the plane that crashed into the Chuuk lagoon last Friday, and went missing after. More: Plane crashes into Chuuk lagoon More: Unaccounted passenger Chuuk flight left aircraft safely, still missing “It its with deep sadness I confirm that the body of a male passenger was discovered by divers,”Air Niugini’s CEO Tahawar Durrani said in a statement. ”This is the unaccounted passenger from the aircraft.” The airline is working on reaching the man’s family and making arrangements to repatriate his remains, the statement said. Airline had said 47 onboard were safe Air Niguini’s flight 73 landed short of the runway at the Chuuk International Airport the morning of Sept. 28. The airline’s Boeing 737 aircraft carried 35 passengers and 12 crew, according to the airline. Officials initially said all 47 people onboard safely evacuated the aircraft.
