A TINDER hook-up turned into the date-from-hell when a man pulled a knife, trashed his date’s home, threatened to blow up flats and kill cops and then bragged about his role in a homophobic murder.
Alexander Kindred, 26, staged a siege for several hours in his victim’s home after she fled from their date in tears after faking a visit to the toilet to escape.
Kindred – who was just 15 when he called up pals to batter a gay victim to death in Perth, Scotland, in 2007 – met the woman on Tinder and she invited him to her home on a date.
But the full nightmare of the romantic liaison was played out at Perth Sheriff Court as Kindred sat in the dock and admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Fiscal depute Carol Whyte told the court: “The complainer and the accused made contact on the Tinder app two weeks prior to this and agreed to meet.
“They met at her address and consumed alcohol. Two members of her family arrived during the evening to make sure she was OK. They all had a drink together.
“She felt he was acting strangely and did not like some of the language he was using. The family members left. He began to open up and disclose details of a personal nature and he told her he and his friends once killed a man.
“She advised him she could not give him help. A neighbour heard the accused shouting and the complainer trying to calm him down. He removed a kitchen knife from his pocket.”
Ms Whyte said Kindred was muttering threats to an unnamed man and brandished the knife, stating: “You don’t know what I’m capable of. I’m going to f****** kill him.”
Kindred became more upset because he thought he had lost his phone, then he apologised and handed over the knife as she offered to help find it with him.
He said: “You think I’m like all the other guys?”
“You don’t know what I’m capable of. I’m going to f****** kill him.”
Ms Whyte said: “She was frightened and pretended to visit the toilet, but fled from the flat.” Her sister had gone home and Googled the accused’s name and discovered his murderous past.
“She was very concerned for her sister. She tried to message her but did not get a reply. She went out and saw the complainer, hysterical and upset, running towards her.”
Police arrived at the scene shortly after midnight and they were immediately threatened by Kindred who told them he had “shotguns and crossbows.”
“He said he would shoot the officers if they tried to gain entry. The door was locked. He made threats to blow up the block of flats. He said he was trying to set it and his T-shirt on fire.
“He was heard smashing up items within the property,” Ms Whyte said. “He said the flat was set with traps.” Kindred told police: “I’m going to take you out. I will stab and shoot you.”
The woman was prevented from returning to her home as the siege continued for several hours with a full police armed response unit on site along with trained negotiators. He eventually gave himself up.
Kindred, a prisoner at Perth, admitted brandishing a knife, repeatedly uttering threats of violence, throwing household items around and damaging property on April 13 and 14 this year.
He admitted threatening to blow up a block of flats and set himself on fire, as well as threatening to kill police officers at the woman’s home in Alyth.
Sheriff William Wood deferred sentence for reports and said: “It is very serious and custody has to be uppermost in my mind.”
Kindred was just 15 when he started a homophobic attack on Perth and Kinross Council worker Jim Kerr in 2007 which eventually led to his victim being battered to death.
The schoolboy telephoned his friends who quickly arrived and beat Mr Kerr to death.
Kindred then callously passed his victim’s lifeless body on his way to a party where he bragged about what they had done. He was found guilty of assault.

Kindred then provoked a public outcry in 2011 when it emerged that he had continued offending after being freed from prison – without ever being taken to court.
He carried out a catalogue of further offences – including drugs, breach of the peace and brawling in the street – but was repeatedly let off with fiscal fines.
David Meehan, then 19, was jailed for life after admitting murdering Mr Kerr and 22-year-old Martin Soutar got six years for culpable homicide.
