Vallejo ruled out for several weeks Julen Lopetegui had been planning to give Jesus Vallejo a chance to shine at Real Madrid in the 2018/19 season, however tests have confirmed that the defender has suffered a fibrillar rupture and will miss a month. The Spanish defender suffered the injury in the warm-up ahead of Los Blancos’ final pre-season friendly against Roma in the United States of America. Upon his return to Madrid medical tests were carried out to fully determine the extent of the ailment, with it confirmed that a grade two rupture was present in his left leg. Usually such an injury keeps a player on the sidelines for at least three weeks, and Lopetegui will certainly be without him for the UEFA Super Cup and LaLiga opener against Getafe. The injury comes as a significant blow to Vallejo, who had hoped he would be able to stake a first-team claim with some strong performances whilst Raphael Varane built his fitness up after a late return from his post-World Cup break.
