Mateo Kovacic says Chelsea are heading for the top after continuing their impressive start to life under Maurizio Sarri with a 2-1 win at Newcastle. The Croatian midfielder made his first start for the Blues on Sunday afternoon at St James’ Park and lasted almost 80 minutes before being replaced by Ross Barkley. A late DeAndre Yedlin own goal gave Chelsea victory after Joselu had cancelled out Eden Hazard’s controversial penalty. The win keeps Chelsea’s 100% record intact, with Sarri’s men taking nine points from a possible nine in the Premier League so far. That puts them second in the table, behind Liverpool on goal difference and level with Watford, who are the only other sides to have won all three games, though Tottenham could join them if they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford tomorrow night. Afterwards, Kovacic, who is on loan from Real Madrid, wrote on Twitter: “Making our way to the top! #TheBluesAreGettingThere”.
