Police have raced to Newland Avenue amid reports of “disruption” outside Piper. A riot van with several officers arrived at the scene after reports of fans getting rowdy as Croatia take the lead in the World Cup semi-cup final. A man has been thrown out of the club, which has been the most popular place to watch the World Cup in Hull, and has since been found with 23 bags of white powder. He has been put into a police van and was heard to be shouting “racist slurs”. Our reporter was at the scene as it happened. She said: “A man has been taken out of piper and put in a police van. “He’s been detained but is shouting racist slurs that can be heard from outside the van with the door shut. He’s shouting and swearing. “The man has been found with 23 bags of drugs thought to be cocaine.” Meanwhile, fans at Queens Hotel in Queens Street, west Hull, have been chanting “let’s smash Prinny Ave up”, and hurling pints of beer.
