Beloved animated series Adventure Time is soon to come to an end on Cartoon Network, and fans are already dreading having to say goodbye to the quirky characters they’ve fallen in love with over the years, and there may not be enough bacon pancakes in the world to help soothe the sting of the series’ end. The good news is that there is a series finale event to air later this year (with an official date also announced). and Adventure Time executive producer Adam Muto was on hand at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about the upcoming series finale and the particular challenges in putting it together. Muto had this to say:
In case you were at all afraid that Adam Muto and the team at Adventure Time weren’t going to put their all into creating something truly wondrous to close off this series, his comments at the Adventure Time panel at San Diego Comic-Con should reassure you. While the end of the series is still sad, perhaps the rest of the wait for the finale (and the joy of the rest of the episodes) won’t have to be tainted by any bitterness. Yes, the end is nigh. No, the show will not end on a whimper. It sounds like fans are in for a bang.
At the panel, it was also announced that “The Ultimate Adventure” finale will air on September 3 at 6 p.m. on Cartoon Network, so fans should probably clear that day in their schedule now. This finale comes across as an event that needs to be watched and absorbed live. The wait for the finale isn’t all that long, all things considered, but there should be enough time to emotionally prepare for anything and everything that could happen in the finale.
The room was packed for the Adventure Time panel, proving that plenty of fans were willing to brave the lines of San Diego Comic-Con for a panel hyping what remains of the final season. It’s only fitting that the show got to come to Comic-Con in 2018; after ten seasons of a groundbreaking cartoon series, it more than earned the right to a packed house at the biggest fan event of the year. I’m just spitballing here, but I’m guessing the ratings for the finale will be quite solid for Cartoon Network. A big question is just how long it will take for viewers too tart clamoring for a reboot, revival, or sequel. This is the time to do it!
