Before Black Friday, there’s Thanksgiving . The traditional American holiday takes place on the fourth Thursday of November each year and is celebrated in recognition of a gathering in Massachusetts in 1621 which gave thanks for a good harvest. And just like Black Friday – the big day of sales which follows the holiday – it’s a celebration that’s ever-so-slowly being recognised in Britain too. Thanks in part to the number of American and Canadian students (although Canada celebrates Thanksgiving in October) and ex-pats who have made Merseyside their home in recent years, it’s getting easier each year to find Thanksgiving feasts on the menu at restaurants around the area.
