The 2015 Walter Camp All-America team was announced on Thursday and three ACC players were named to the first team, all of which were on the defensive side of the ball.
Duke senior safety Jeremy Cash, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, landed a spot on the first team, along with Florida State junior corner/safety Jalen Ramsey and Clemson junior defensive Shaq Lawson.
While Clemson QB DeShaun Watson has won just about everything this year, he could not win a spot on the first team. Neither could FSU’s star running back Dalvin Cook.
Watson, the leader of the No. 1 Tigers (13-0) and the ACC Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, took a back seat to Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield.
On the season, Watson, a Heisman finalist, has thrown for 3,512 yards and 30 touchdowns, while rushing for 887 yards and 11 scores. Meanwhile, Mayfield has aired it out for 3,389 yard and 35 TDs and has run for 420 yards and seven scores.
Watson and his Tigers will clash with Mayfield and the Sooners in the semifinal round of the College Football Playoffs on Dec. 31 in the Orange Bowl.
Cook, a sophomore, has averaged an astounding 7.9 yards per carry this season to rack up 1,658 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, but could not edge out LSU’s Leonard Fournette and Alabama’s Derrick Henry, who is also a Heisman finalist.
Both Watson and Cook were named to the Walter Camp All-America second-team, along with Clemson TE Jordan Leggett.
